About This Project
When this empty-nest couple purchased their Riverwoods home, the scale of the space felt overwhelming. Moving from a condo to a large forest home, they felt the energy was heavy and disconnected from how they wanted to live. The goal was clear: lighten the space, bring the outdoors in, and create a home that finally felt like theirs.
The first floor was fully reimagined. Walls were opened to connect the living and family rooms, maximizing both natural light and spatial flow. The kitchen was reconfigured to draw closer to the windows, allowing the forest views to anchor daily life. A new fireplace design was introduced not as a focal point but as a grounding element within the open space, creating balance rather than dominance.
Throughout, every decision was guided by the client's need for calm and order. A neutral, monochromatic palette rooted in Organic Modern sensibility was chosen to support that. Soft window treatments layered texture against the walls. Hard and soft surfaces were carefully balanced. Plants, curated artwork, and textured accessories added visual richness and dynamic focal points within the quiet palette, keeping the space alive without disrupting its serenity.
The result is a home that breathes. One that reflects the landscape just outside its windows and supports the way this couple lives every single day.
